OPS teachers featured in magazine
To honor the achievements of the two cohorts of Omaha Public Schools teachers in Math in the Middle, the Center for Science, Mathematics & Computer Education has released a magazine highlighting these 32 teachers and their progress in the program. Eighteen teachers graduated in August 2010 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's summer commencement, while 13 others graduated in August 2011.
In 2008, Math in the Middle partnered with OPS to submit a proposal to the National Science Foundation for funding the pursuit of master's degrees for middle level teachers who teach in districts that serve a large number of students who live in poverty. The partnership has been a rousing success. As follows is an excerpt from the magazine by Jim Lewis: "We are quite proud of the Omaha Public School mathematics teachers who are part of Math in the Middle. The district is fortunate to have such a dedicated and capable group of teachers."
An electronic copy of this magazine is available here. To receive a hard copy of the magazine, contact the Center for Science, Mathematics & Computer Education at (402) 472-8965.
