Dr. Elizabeth Lewis has a BS degree in geology, and a minor in Fine Arts, from the College of William and Mary, a MS in geological sciences from the University of Maine, a secondary science teaching certification and MS in Teaching & Learning from the University of Southern Maine. She taught high school Earth and space science for 7 years, also becoming a National Board Certified teacher in 2002. Dr. Lewis earned her Ph.D. in Curriculum & Instruction (with a science education focus) at Arizona State University in 2009. She began working at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln as an assistant professor in the Department of Teaching, Learning, & Teacher Education in August 2009 and was promoted to associate professor with tenure in 2015. Dr. Lewis directs the Master of Arts with emphasis in science teaching (MAst) program, has been PI of two NSF Robert Noyce grants totaling $2 million, and co-PI on several other grants. In 2021 she spearheaded the award of a $2.9 million NSF Noyce Master Teacher Fellows grant to design and research a new science teacher-leadership professional development program culminating in an Ed.S. degree. In January 2022, Dr. Lewis was appointed as a Senior Advisor to the Center for Science, Mathematics, and Computer Education, focusing on expanding teacher professional development and research on secondary science education issues at UNL. Dr. Lewis is also affiliated faculty with the Women and Gender Studies program.
