Women in Science

Join us April 4-5, 2025

The 26th Women in Science Conference will be held on City Campus and the Embassy Suites in Lincoln, Nebraska. Sponsored by Nebraska EPSCoR, the NebraskaSCIENCE Program of Excellence, and the Center for Science, Mathematics and Computer Education, this two-day event brings high school students from across Nebraska and the Midwest region together to explore interests in science careers. Women in Science is for students who want to interact with career and academic professional women in science, meet current undergraduate science students and other high school students who are interested in science, and discover countless professions as diverse as biologists, geologists, engineers, food scientists, computer scientists, and those in the medical fields.

Keynote Speakers

Dr. Georgia Jones and Dr. Judy Wu-Smart will engage in a "fireside" chat about their respective fields of science and their journey as a scientist. The conversation will be moderated by Jocelyn Bosley of the UNL Office of Research and Economic Development.

Dr. Georgia Jones

Associate Professor

Department of Food and Nutrition, University of Nebraska-Lincoln

Dr. Jones is an associate professor and Extension Food Specialist in the Department of Food and Nutrition. After several years of working within the food industry, Dr. Jones decided to return to school to attain a Ph.D. in food science. Since the start of her career with the University of Nebraska in 2001, she has taught introductory foods classes as well as food safety and sanitation. She says the best part of teaching is watching students develop a genuine interest in food. One of her primary goals is to help people understand and enjoy food from a cultural as well as nutritional perspective.
