Overview
GeoNet is a professional development initiative designed to connect and support Nebraska science educators through workshops, field trips, and collaborative curriculum development. By integrating geosciences into physics, chemistry, and biology, GeoNet strengthens interdisciplinary teaching while building a strong network of educators dedicated to inquiry-based science learning.
We are currently recruiting for Cohort 1, which kicks off in Summer 2025!

Program Details
Cohort 1 (2025-2026)
Kickoff Retreat: Schramm Park (July 13-15, 2025)
- Stay in air-conditioned cabins at Louisville State Park
- Explore Nebraska’s geological features through field trips
- Collaborate with fellow teachers to develop interdisciplinary curriculum
School Year Collaboration (2025-2026)
- Work in small teams to refine and implement curriculum in your classroom
- Receive ongoing support and feedback from fellow teachers and GeoNet mentors
Final Retreat: Cedar Point Biological Station (Summer 2026, Dates TBD)
- Travel to Western Nebraska for more geology field trips
- Share progress, lessons learned, and next steps for curriculum implementation
Cohort 2 (2026-2027)
- Follows a similar structure, launching in Summer 2026

Scholarships Available for Inquiry-Based Geoscience Field Course
Are you a middle or high school science teacher looking for an unforgettable, hands-on geoscience experience? Join us this summer for a 16-day field course across Wyoming, Nebraska, and South Dakota, where you’ll engage in inquiry-based learning while immersed in real-world geoscience exploration.
Through this science-immersion discovery experience, you’ll:
- Gain practical knowledge of geoscience and inquiry-based teaching
- Explore NGSS-aligned, three-dimensional learning frameworks
- Develop a toolkit of effective inquiry-based teaching practices
- Network with fellow educators while experiencing the adventure of a lifetime!
