The diversity in urban upper-level science classrooms does not match that of our buildings. My goal is to use culturally responsive teacher and strategies aligned to the NGSS to make my classroom a welcoming place for all students. I strive to see the assets in each student and the funds of knowledge that each brings. I hope to be a leader in inquiry strategies and mentor others in bringing them into all classes. When we can connect science to the world around us, it is more motivating for students and includes topics that are of interest to them. I am proud to have completed my National Board Certification in chemistry this past year.
