Step 1

Complete Admissions

If you have not taken a graduate course at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in the past three semesters, you need to enroll as either a non-degree-seeking, post-baccalaureate graduate student or as a degree-seeking master's student via the Graduate Studies application for admission. The $50 fee is not waived. You will enroll in courses in MyRED once officially admitted (see Step 4).

Step 2

Choose Courses

Plan your schedule from our Course Catalog. Write down the Course Number, Title and Class Number for each course you would like to take. Registering via Class Number in MyRED is the fastest route. Registration opens March 4.

NMSSI courses will be offered utilizing several instructional models that will support teachers in different ways.: in-person, online, and via web conferencing. Most courses will be concentrated during a two-week period.

Step 4

Enroll in Classes

After Steps 1 and 2, or if you have taken a course in the past year as an active UNL student, register for class via MyRed by searching for the Class Number (four or five digits) of the course you wish to take. New graduate students will need to set up a password with TrueYou.

Tuition Discounts and Fellowships

To make the NMSSI professional development opportunities more affordable, we have asked the University of Nebraska-Lincoln to offer tuition discounts to Nebraska teachers who take our summer courses. Nebraska teachers qualify for a Tuition Fellowship of 20 percent of resident tuition for many of these graduate courses.

Teachers may also apply for additional fellowships to help cover the remaining tuition costs. Fellowships are available through the NMSSI to eligible Nebraska teachers while funds are available.

NMSSI Participation

"The best thing about the NMSSI program is the relationships that I create with various math teachers from around the area. We keep in touch after these courses. Also, the professors and graduate assistants that we work with in these classes are some of the best around. They are great at challenging us intellectually, but are also of great help in leading us in the right direction when material gets difficult. I enjoy the opportunity to get out of my comfort zone and explore some mathematical ideas that I normally wouldn’t within my own classroom. I recommend this program to anybody."
